Les Grimaldines - Yuri Buenaventura

The Grimaldines are celebrating an exceptional milestone! This new edition kicks off with a bang with the festival's 100th evening, featuring a concert by the undisputed master of salsa, Yuri Buenaventura!

Sixteen years after rocking the Grimaldines stage, he's honored us with his return. A unique opportunity to rediscover the boundless energy and Latin soul of this artist, who conquered France in 1996 with a prodigious cover of one of our greatest hits: Jacques Brel's "Ne me quitte pas."

From his childhood, Yuri was immersed in contrasting musical influences: on the one hand, Gregorian chants, French music and classical music introduced to him by his father; on the other, percussion, the marimba and African songs that resonated on the beaches of his hometown, Buenaventura.

Although he grew up in Colombia, it was in France that he found the light of success. Arriving in Paris to study economics, he began improvising concerts in the metro. It was the 1990s and Latino fever was taking over the capital. The salsa singer's talent quickly became a sensation, propelling Yuri Buenaventura to the forefront of the era.

Thanks to the success of his cover of "Ne me quitte pas," he released his first album, "Herencia Africana," in 1996, making history by becoming the first salsa singer to earn a gold record. He continued his rise by earning four more gold records for each of the following albums: "Yo Soy" in 2000, "Vagabundo" in 2003, "Salsa Dura" in 2005, and "Cita con la luz" in 2009.

In September 2024, he released his new album, "Amame," which literally means "Love me." In this opus, he brings together two worlds: on one hand, traditional salsa and Caribbean music with tropical sounds; and on the other, New York urban rhythms and the harmony of jazz.

He considers this album as a tribute to New York Latin music and its musicians.
