Fête de la Saint Jean Cavalaire
Description
The traditional fires of St Jean are anchored in our Provençal heritage.
On the evening of June 24, an ancestral custom is to light a large bonfire at nightfall,
uniting all the inhabitants of a town or village around its light. Associated with Saint John the Baptist, who is celebrated on June 24, this custom has its roots in an even older tradition, that of celebrating the summer solstice. The fire, visible from afar, brings the community together and already constitutes, as such, a spectacle
delightful and superb. The tradition is to dance around the fire, and popular balls are organized at this time.
