Festival Jazz à Ramatuelle (39° édition)
Description
The pianist, whose first name, Montgomery, aka "Monty," is a tribute to the famous general, presents his new album, "D-Day." It features a collection of pieces written during the war, as well as original compositions.
The result is a swinging and virtuoso jazz, eloquent and colorful, joyful and effervescent, full of sensitivity.
D-Day brings together the quintessence of two new sessions. We hear a more introspective Monty Alexander than usual, sure of the time needed to reach the right note, the one that only comes with a sense of assurance.
With the young and brilliant Luke Sellick and Jason Brown, his current rhythm section, he finds partners in unison with his harmonic and rhythmic digressions, in total fusion, and always pierced by the heady beat of reggae and the contagious swing of swing.
More than ever, Monty Alexander plays "by ear," spontaneously. And that's the privilege of certain great ears to be able to access total freedom of expression.
